Mozart's Sister by Rita Charbonnier

Su questo blog si è parlato spesso di romanzi a tema "musicale", constatando quanto gli autori siano portati a infarcire la narrazione di stereotipi lontanissimi dalla realtà della musica.

Questo capita talvolta anche nel caso di opere assolutamente pregevoli da un punto di vista letterario, come l'intenso Stabat Mater di Tiziano Scarpa (vedi il post relativo).

Segnalo invece un romanzo che nella sua freschezza e vivacità si avvicina con molto rispetto alla musica e a uno dei suoi autori più celebrati. Mi riferisco a La sorella di Mozart di Rita Charbonnier, che uscirà nei prossimi giorni in una nuova edizione, dopo la prima pubblicata nel 2006. In quell'occasione avevo avuto il piacere di presentare il romanzo al pubblico di Mantova insieme all'autrice. E' stato davvero interessante capire come è nato il suo interesse per Nannerl - la sorella di Mozart, appunto - che nelle biografie dedicate al compositore salisburghese appare come un personaggio scialbo e incolore. Rita Charbonnier provvede a colmare queste campiture prive di colore, restituendo voce a una figura da sempre relegata nel silenzio della storia.

La storia spesso ha tolto la voce alle figure femminili. Abbiamo i loro ritratti, ammiriamo la loro bellezza, ma ci sfuggono la their souls and their talent. This is also the case of Nannerl, who was a pianist and composer of merit, but for which no settlement has been handed down safely.

Pagine bellissime, come quelle sul concerto scritto per la francese Jeunehomme, che con la superficialità divistica rappresenta un perfetto contraltare di Nannerl. C’è il Flauto Magico, il Don Giovanni. E c’è la Fantasia in re minore, che per l'autrice ha un significato particolare, quasi un suggello dell’intero romanzo. Descrivere la musica per uno scrittore è un'autentica sfida. Rita Charbonnier lo fa con levità e finezza davvero mozartiane. Music and Painting: Corot Orpheus


Orpheus and Eurydice out of Hell leads now preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, was exhibited at the Salon of 1861.
